      Hi All,

Hope everyone has had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas/New Year break.

As we will not have meeting in January, I thought some of our members might like to share the images of the orchids in bloom. Well, I will be very keen to learn more about your success 🙂

Here are a few pictures of my orchids currently in bloom. Sorry that my phone is quite old and any picture it took has a black spot on the corner, but I have just got a new phone so hopefully will have better pictures next time.

      Unknown native dendrobium

When I bought this plant from ANOS three years ago, it had a tag describing it as Den Kayla ‘Killa’ x Spec. ‘Winderemere’.

Last night I brought this plant to SSOS with the tag, Cole Brandon came to me and told me that this name is definitely wrong. I asked him how could he be so sure, he told me because he was the person who created the Kayla ‘Killa’ cross. Isn’t it a small world?

Oncidium Pacific Sunrise ‘Hakalau’ – I bought this in a polypack fro Bunnings a year ago.

Den. Airy Crimson – first (successful) flowering after a long hard 3.5 years. The actual colour is darker than shown in the picture, very velvety dark colour which I really like. Bought on eBay and mail posted from Cairns.

      Den. Aree Dang 'Green Apple'

Den. Aree Dang ‘Green Apple’ also mail posted from Cairns with the last den. This orchid has no leaves yet it produced such a magnificent inflorescence. I don’t think it will live after this, can someone please help me to save it?

Miltassia Estrelita ‘Sweet Sinorita’ – three other spikes are growing now.

Hope you’ve enjoyed these images. Can’t wait to see you share yours

      Cheers,

      Herbert

ANOS or AON..  If it is AON, email a photo of the flower and they may be able to give you a correct name.   Pity it wasn’t the Kayla x speciosum..  that cross looks like a Killa for woody yellow Dens

Also.. what is the fragrance like on the Oncid?

Yeah, good idea to check with ANOS for the correct name. Will have to do that sometimes.

Can’t remember if I noticed any fragrance on that bloom, perhaps it was so faint that I couldn’t detect it. Certainly not one the more heavily scented types.

I was excited about this plant for the fact that it gave me an out of season bloom with quite decent size flowers, in fact it was 30% bigger than the flowers I got from last winter/spring when it was the normally expected bloom time.
