Hi All,
Our novice member Oryit shares some images of her flowering orchids with us in the below:
I forgot to ask her what stanhopea this is. It looks to me like a nigroviolacea. Unless you are already familiar with stanhopea, you might not realise the camera angle is facing upward from below the plant. That is because the flower spike actually penetrates through the bottom of the basket so it actually opens under the plant, while the leaves face upward above the basket. It has strong fragrance, too strong to like for some people, smell of mix lemon with cloves. Okay to put the plant in your backyard but might be too strong if you leave it in your living room.
This is a hard cane dendrobium. Ask Oryit what the name of the cross is. I have a similar one, and it seems the cross between white and purple is very common and popular.
Cheers,
Herbert
